A decadent Spring menu

We are in Spring green heaven! All of the vibrant local greens are starting to come into the kitchen in abundance. Kale, turnip greens, lettuces, spinach and more are in baskets on our kitchen counters, inspiring us to tuck them into all of our dishes. It is such a great time of year to enjoy the rich nutrients that these greens have to offer us.

This Week for pre-order, we will be preparing two gorgeous dinner sets for you to choose from complete with greens-packed side dishes. As always, conveniently prepared for 1 and easily multiplied to serve any party size up to twenty this weekend, dinner sets have become a weekly staple on our pre-order menu!

What makes our pre-order menu so special…

It allows us to create new dishes based on what is available to us right here, right now. The procurement of ever changing hyper-local ingredients of the best quality requires a little extra planning and lead time each week for these unique dishes, but it is so worth it. This is why our ordering window is from Sunday to Wednesday evening weekly!

Sometimes, there may be a little extra available on Friday afternoons in the shop, but the best way to ensure you are not disappointed is to get your order in before the deadline. To make it even easier, if you find ordering online isn’t for you, you can now place your pre-order in the shop! On Wednesday’s we invite you to visit the shop or call in with your credit card to place your order.

For this week, first we’ll be grilling beautiful wild Spring salmon and making a Spring inspired risotto with plenty of greens, 36 month parmigiana and fresh lemon to accompany. We’ll also be making gorgeous Cowichan Valley grass finished short ribs, braising them overnight with lots of red wine and herbs; filling the kitchen with their incredible aroma. Green garlic mashed potatoes on the side - a must! Harissa roasted carrots, and first of the season creamed greens will be served alongside as well to complete both dinner sets.

Beautiful local citrus is still gracing our kitchen; we are excited to make Key Lime pie this week with local citrus, organic cream and a graham cracker crust. Zesty and fun, this pie transports us to times spent in the tropics, eating ice cold Key Lime pie out of the cooler on the beach.

Now that picnic season is here we are very excited about all of our new picnic items. Each day in the shop we are making fresh dips and spreads, delicious marinated vegetable salads, Spring inspired chicken dishes that are designed to enjoy cold out of your picnic basket, cold grilled vegetable dishes and more. We also have brought in some wonderful new cheeses, olives and crackers to add to your Spring picnic. We look forward to helping you put together a delicious picnic for your next adventure.

Our wonderful neighbours Molly and Zack from Bullock Lake Farm have started bringing us fresh tulips almost daily; these flowers bring so much beauty to the shop and into our homes; it is quite hard to not take them all home each day! You can look forward to picking up a bunch or two in the shop this week.

We can’t wait to share all of these lovely items with you…

Looking forward to another great week of beautiful food!
